Sustainable design for major retail brands

Mill Lane Retail Park Alton

Mill Lane Retail Park Alton
The Mill Lane Retail Park, Alton sees the transformation of a vacant and contaminated brownfield site into a modern, sustainable and flexible Retail Park. The recently completed project provides four new, sustainably built, flexible retail units providing more than 46,500sqft (4320m2) of floorspace together with access, servicing, parking and extensive landscaping.

The project generated much interest, resulting in 75% of the units being pre-let to major retail names including Lidl, Home Bargains and Costa Coffee.

The steel framed volumes provided clear ‘shells’ for the individual tenants to fitout and customise, and the exposed columns to the frontage support aerofoil louvres that match the cladding and provide solar shading to the shopfronts, allowing winter and evening sunshine in while reducing overheating and glare during the daytime and summer months.

Sustainable modes of transport are encouraged with the integration of dedicated cycle stores and electric vehicle charging spaces. The roofs are fitted with an array of solar panels as part of the project’s sustainability strategy. The landscaping includes an abundance of plant cover and new trees to enhance biodiversity on this brownfield site.
