Fire Station Design and Construction Workshop

This week HNW participated in the Fire Station Design and Construction Workshop, held near, Crewe, Cheshire. This was HNW’s first attendance to the usual annual event, back this year from an extended break due to the Covid pandemic.
The workshop brings together a wealth of design professionals, specialists, estates teams and Fire Service members to network and discuss key aspects of fire station design and share similar challenges on how to improve their estates. One challenge at the head of the agenda was the layout and zoning of facilities to reduce exposure to harmful contaminants. This issue has become increasingly important as studies highlight the risks of cross-contamination and the long-term health effects firefighters face due to exposure to hazardous particles.

Other key issues discussed within workshop sessions were fire fighter inclusivity and mental health wellbeing, carbon reduction, sustainability, and the presentation of the latest innovations in training equipment, facilities and standards.

HNW held an exhibition stand to showcase their experience within the Blue Light sector focused on Platinum House, West Sussex’s new award-winning Fire Station and Training Facilities at Horsham. This gave us the opportunity to present the scheme to a wider audience and the provisions of this state of art facility, including the green, amber and red decontamination zoning principles that places Platinum House at the forefront of acknowledged industry best practice.

We were also on hand to share our design journey and discuss where we can help with the personal challenges faced by Fire Brigades in their own estate improvement programmes.
