This week, HNW Architects attended the annual Fire Station Design Conference in Crewe, marking our second year at this key Blue Light industry event dedicated to the design, delivery, and operation of modern fire and rescue facilities across the UK.
With attendance up by 35% on last year, and more Fire and Rescue Services represented than ever, the conference continues to grow in both scale and importance reflecting a shared ambition to create safer, healthier, and more sustainable environments for those who serve our communities.
The day featured a series of insightful presentations and open discussions — with some of our key highlights including:
• Royal Berkshire FRS on implementing modular construction on constrained operational sites.
• Ridge & Partners demonstrating how drone surveying is transforming site analysis and asset management.
• Crofton and Fireblast Engineering debating real fires vs. gas fire systems in immersive firefighter training facilities.
• ATG Group raising awareness of PFAS contamination and mitigation strategies on redevelopment sites.
• Surrey FRS sharing an operational perspective on contaminants and wellbeing, highlighting lessons from active service.
It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new colleagues from across the UK, and exchange ideas with others helping shape the future of Blue Light design.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s event — which promises to be even bigger, as the conference moves to a new, larger venue.
